Keg Monitoring

Carlton United Breweries is on a mission to ensure that they are serving Australian customers the best beer – Every Day. Working together with Binary Beer (Affix Digital's Brewing industry brand) bespoke keg monitoring sensors were designed and trialled during 2019. This successful trial was the first step towards monitoring every keg in the CUB fleet, ensuring Australian beer drinkers always receive the best quality experience.

Obstacles
  • Connectivity

    Beer kegs spend most of their time in cool rooms and on trucks, where traditional methods don’t work.

  • Durability

    As well as being exposed to the elements and some fairly rough treatment, kegs undergo rapid temperature changes and chemical saturation during the cleaning cycle.

  • Cost

    Beer kegs are a relatively low cost asset. In order to be viable a keg monitor must be cost effective.

  • In The Field

    Kegs spend most of their time away from the brewery that owns them, so sensors need to be low maintenance.

  • Attachment

    Beer kegs are filled under pressure. As such any sensor must not cause weakness in the keg.

Network Monitoring

Affix Digital and Binary Beer have been working closely with Vodafone as the NBIoT network is rolled out across Australia. As one of the first companies in the world to create a commercially available mobile device utilizing this technology, we have been working together with Vodafone to promote the technology and its opportunities.

Obstacles

Vodafone has invested in upgrading its network to enable NBIoT connectivity across Australia. However, NBIoT technology is very new and potential customers haven’t seen it is use in the marketplace.

Solution

NBIoT Network Monitor - Measuring location, temperature and network coverage, a custom designed sensor was created as a promotional tool for Vodafone and their enterprise partners.

BioMaterial Monitoring

Tricep create 3D printing Bio Materials that are transported to laboratories and medical facilities around Australia. These shipments are time and temperature sensitive, and have previously been managed using data loggers.

Obstacles
  • Shipments are both time and temperature sensitive

  • Shipments are extremely valuable

  • Shipments are kept at extremely low temperatures

  • Data loggers only alert to issues after the transportation is complete

Solution

Custom designed Shipment Monitor measures and reports temperature and location during the shipping process. If temperature increases toward unacceptable levels, intervention can be made in a timely manner to ensure actions are taken before the shipment spoils.

Antenna Orientation Monitoring

Kenya was one of the first countries in the world to roll out the NBIoT technology, and Michael (our founder) was there to assist with the network testing.

Telecommunications antennas are extremely sensitive to movements which can be caused by storms and natural disasters. Often slight movements in panels can cause major issues to telecommunications coverage, which are only identified after the fact.

    Sensors are exposed to the harsh climate all day, every day

  • Attachment

    Measuring tiny movements means the attachment of the sensor must be rigid

  • Maintenance

    Sensors are high up on antenna panels and cannot be easily reached for maintenance
